4. The right time 4.1. The future expression and the time representation in English 4.1.1. The time representation of the future expression English does not have the future tense, but there is some future expression. And then, it has two time representation, this means we have to use them properly like the two forms, the past tense and the present perfect form (Cf. the chapter 2 or the chapter 3). See the following figure. (1) a. b. In the two time representation, S is at the present, and E is at the future because of the future event. The point of M is different, M of the present means the event has the strong relationship with the present, but M of the future means the weak relationship. The meanings of the time representation and the future expression are explained in the next section. |
